On September 11th, 2001, my brother, FDNY FF Lou Arena, rushed into WTC South Tower as the towers burned. He was 32. He was with his brothers from Ladder 5.
In the months that followed, he worked tirelessly at Ground Zero and the Fresh Kills site, sifting through the wreckage to help bring answers to grieving families. He never questioned it—he believed it was simply what you do.
Louie loved being a fireman. He loved going to work with his second family. He was so much more than a fireman. He was a loving son, brother, husband, and an incredible father who adored his daughter, Nina and son, Joe. He loved bringing people together, whether by hosting get togethers, preparing home-cooked meals, or helping people with their projects. He was always willing to give a helping hand to fix anything. He left a lasting impact on anyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Anyone who knew Louie, loved him.
I walk in his memory and in honor of all the heroes who lost their lives. So many lives were forever changed that day. Your support ensures their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
