Arthur had an outgoing and contagious personality and was a friend to so many. He loved people and life.
Artie loved bowling, biking, swimming, playing racquetball, and spending countless hours out on boats. After high school, Artie captained his fishing boat, "Tammy Gale" before joining the ranks of the FDNY in 1982. Artie started off in Engine 330-Ladder 172, then was promoted to Lieutenant, Engine 281-Ladder 147. Following the WTC attacks on 9/11, Artie worked on site for 4 months following, assisting with the search and rescue recovery. After proudly serving the City of New York for 20 years, Artie retired from Marine 9 in 2003, moving his family to Florida shortly thereafter.
Artie's sense of humor immediately put people at ease as he made the most mundane moments memorable and fun. His gregarious personality formed lifelong friendships easily as he never forgot a face. Artie showed remarkable strength, courage, compassion, and humor until the very end. Artie made the supreme sacrifice on June 10th, 2022 after a long battle with a 9/11 realted illness.
Artie remained a lovable hero to the very end and will be deeply missed by many. He lived by the saying "do no harm" but more than that, he did so much good. We will be participating in the Tunnel to Towers run in honor of Artie and his eagerness to lend a hand wherever he could.
