I will be running in the annual Tunnel to Towers Foundation 5K for the second time in honor of my dear friends Robert Schardt’s and Amanda Hetzel’s fathers. Firefighter John A. Schardt (a member of Engine 201 in Brooklyn) and Firefighter Thomas J. Hetzel (a member of Ladder 13 in Yorkville, NYC) were two of the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.
The Tunnel To Towers Foundation helps families of fallen first responders and veterans, and catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. They are truly one of the best organizations out there!
