Eddie Doyle was a proud FDNY Firefighter assigned to Engine 82 in the South Bronx. On September 11, 2001, Ed was home with his family on Long Island doing things around his house.
Shortly after the FDNY’s initial response, all off duty members were detailed to report to their assigned quarters. Ed was assigned to Ground Zero where he would spend months working through the pile with many other first responders. He was exposed to so much from an emotional and physical perspective, much of which no human should ever have to experience. The results impacted Ed’s health in so many ways.
Eventually the FDNY 9/11 Doctors informed Ed that he would never physically be able to perform the job he loved so much.
His struggles came to an end on September 1, 2017 when Ed was taken from his children and family way too early.
As we prepared for Ed’s funeral, we decided as a family to honor Ed’s memory by going in to the Tunnel to Towers NYC 5K each year. That is when Team #DoyleStrong82 was born!
In year one we went with about 20 family members and close friends. This was literally just weeks after we laid Ed to rest.
Each year the group has grown with extended family and friends to this past September of 2024 saw the group grow to 120 team members.
In recent years we began fundraising efforts to raise money to support various charities that were meaningful to Ed. Among those charities we have donated to are The Stephen Siller Foundation, 911 Responders Remembered Park, Smithtown, NY, FDNY E82/L31 Commissary, and general support for our team efforts toward the Tunnel to Towers 5K.
Born from the tragedy of 9/11, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation carries forward a legacy of courage and heroism. Built upon the mantra, “While we have time, LET US DO GOOD,” the Foundation supports our nation’s fallen and catastrophically injured first responders, military heroes and their families.
Please help me support the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and America's heroes by making a donation through my page. The process is fast, easy and secure. Thank you for your support, and please don't forget to send this page to anyone who may be interested in donating!
