Syosset Fire Department – 25th Anniversary of 9/11
Twenty‑five years ago, our world changed forever. On September 11th, 2001, members of the Syosset Fire Department—like so many across our region—answered the call without hesitation. Many of our own responded to Ground Zero in the hours, days, and weeks that followed. They carried hope into devastation, strength into chaos, and compassion into the darkest moments our nation had ever seen.
We continue to carry the weight of that day. We have lost brothers to 9/11‑related illness, including Paramedic and Firefighter Court Cousins, whose courage, humor, and heart remain part of the fabric of this department. His service did not end on 9/11; it lived on in every life he touched and in every call he answered. We run in his memory, and in honor of all who served, sacrificed, and never stopped showing up.
As we mark the 25th anniversary, we run not only to remember—but to do good.
Born from the tragedy of 9/11, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation carries forward a legacy of courage and heroism. Guided by the mantra, “While we have time, LET US DO GOOD,” the Foundation supports the families of fallen and catastrophically injured first responders and military heroes. Their mission reflects the very best of who we are and what we stand for.
This year, our department runs with full hearts—for Court, for every member we’ve lost, for every survivor still fighting, and for every family forever changed. We run to ensure their stories are never forgotten.
