Born from the tragedy of 9/11, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation carries forward a legacy of courage and heroism. Built upon the mantra, “While we have time, LET US DO GOOD,” the Foundation supports our nation’s fallen and catastrophically injured first responders, military heroes and their families.
I'm running the Tunnel to Towers and fundraising with my Team Q104.3 teammates for the people who run towards the towers while everyone else is trying to go the other way. Please make whatever donation you can for the families of injured or fallen responders and service people.
On the morning of 9/11 I was on the Bronx River Parkway over the train tracks. I knew a plane at hit the north tower when I started my commute to Douglaston and I had news radio on. The situation went from horrible to catastrophic. From my point on the bridge over the tracks, I saw the flash and the gray cloud from the south tower, and I knew New York was under attack. Then the news said to leave the left lane clear on any highway into Manhattan for the fire vehicles. The sound of passing sirens because a steady scream as I crept past the Cross Bronx on my way to the Throggs Neck. Just after I passed the toll gates on the bridge a line of squad cars rolled across, blocking all traffic both ways to seal off Manhattan.
On that day and the days that followed, our nation lost too many people who ran towards the towers. The running has never stopped. Not for 25 years. The donations can't stop either. Make yours one of them. Never forget 9/11.
